CHADRON, Neb. – Believe it or not, the scores of the Chadron State College women's basketball team's games this weekend were exactly the same – 66-54 – with the second decision coming Saturday afternoon against UCCS at the Chicoine Center. That's an oddity, but it didn't help the Eagles' win-loss record because they didn't win either contest.

The visiting Mountain Lions hit five of their first six field goal shots in the opening three minutes to build a 12-2 lead and were ahead the entire game. The margin was 26-17 through the first quarter and 39-23 at intermission after the Eagles added just six points in the second period.

At halftime, CSC Coach Jalen Little said he challenged his team to play harder in the second half and they responded by outscoring the Lions 31-27 after halftime. The Eagles shot just under 40 percent each half, but lowered their turnovers from 15 in the first half to 10 in the second half for one of the improvements.

For the game, the Eagles were 20 of 52 (38.5%) from the field. They matched the Mountain Lions by making six three-pointers and grabbed 33 rebounds, two more than the visitors.

CSC was led in scoring by guard Audrey Quintana, who scored 12 points by going 4-for-5 from the field, two of them treys, and also making both of her free throws.

Three freshmen showed promise by combining for 25 points. Ella Moser nailed three treys for nine points and came up with four steals, Kenna Wagner added eight points and Keziah Toran scored seven to go with a game-high and career-high 11 rebounds.

Seniors McKenzi Petersen and Amya Winfrey combined for 16 points and nine rebounds while sharing the playing time at the post position.

UCCS got more than half its points from two players. Ayianna Johnson, a 6-foot-3 transfer from the University of Colorado, scored 20 and collected 10 rebounds, while Amyah Moore Allen, a 5-8 senior and a two-time All-RMAC choice, tallied 18 points and had seven rebounds and seven assists.

The Mountain Lions are now 5-5 for the season and 2-2 in the RMAC. The Eagles are still winless through their first seven games, four of them RMAC contests.

Chadron State will conclude the 2025 portion of their schedule next week. On Tuesday, the Eagles face Nebraska-Kearney, which ended this week with a 4-6 record and is also playing a game on Monday, before traveling to Fort Hays State next Friday.

Mountain Lions Blitz Eagles in Saturday Win

CHADRON, Neb. – The Chadron State Eagles committed 24 turnovers and otherwise fell victim to the RMAC's top-scoring offense, losing 100-74 to UCCS on a Saturday afternoon at the Chicoine Center.

Blessing Adesipe impressed with a 16-point, nine-rebound, three-steal statline in the losing effort for Chadron State. Jadon Cool (19 points) and Luka Djuvoric (17 points, five rebounds) joined Adesipe in double figures.

UCCS is just the second team to score 100 points against Chadron State this season and only the third in the Chris Francis era. While UCCS had a great day offensively, the Eagles were not short on offensive highlights themselves.

Chadron State shot a season-best 48.8 percent from the field, making 20 of 41 field goal attempts. The Eagles also set new season highs with 30 free-throw makes and 41 free-throw attempts, which are the fourth-most and second-most, respectively, in any RMAC game this season.

Djurovic's 17 points are a career-high for the true freshman from Montenegro. Djurovic also recorded multiple assists for the first time in his collegiate career. Adesipe's 16 points are a season-high for the Houston native.

The Eagles shot slightly better than the visiting Mountain Lions (47.4 percent) despite UCCS hitting the century mark. Four Eagles shot better than 50 percent from the floor individually – Adesipe (5-for-6), Djuvoric (5-for-7), Cool (5-for-8) and Ethan Russell (2-for-4).

Extra possessions caused by turnovers and rebounds did the Eagles in as UCCS had 78 field goal attempts while Chadron State had 41. CSC's 24 turnovers were a season-high and 10 more than their opponents' 14. The Eagles were also outrebounded 39-28.

In a testament to how well UCCS kept possessions alive and got extra looks, the Mountain Lions actually had more offensive rebounds (20) than defensive rebounds (19) in the contest.

The Mountain Lions led wire-to-wire. They jumped out to a 10-3 advantage within four minutes, stretched the lead to double digits for the first time at 28-18 with 8:48 to play in the first half, led by 15 points (50-35) at halftime and hit their largest lead of 30 points at 80-50 with 9:37 to play.

UCCS had five double-figure scorers, four players with multiple steals and six players with three or more rebounds. The Mountain Lions used a balanced lineup, with 10 players logging over 15 minutes and only one player topping 21 minutes.

One of the second-half standouts for Chadron State was sophomore forward Alexi Anderson. A Dallas, Texas native whose brother, Porter Anderson, played three seasons for the Eagles, Alexi Anderson appeared in just his third game of the year and first home game, setting CSC career-highs in minutes (13), rebounds (five) and blocks (two) while scoring two points.

Chadron State has one game remaining before Christmas break – a nonconference contest against rivals Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday, December 16 at 6:30 p.m. (7:30 local) or after the conclusion of the women's game. After the holidays, CSC will resume RMAC play on the road against Colorado School of Mines and Regis on January 8 and 10.
