KEARNEY, Neb. — The Pierce Bluejays are state dual wrestling champions for the first time.
Pierce went 3-0 on Saturday at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds in Kearney to claim the Class C dual title. The Bluejays entered as the top seed and comfortably captured the crown.
They beat Gibbon 53-17 in the opening round, then defeated Battle Creek 37-29 in the semifinals and took down Central City 55-21 in the final dual.
This marks the first dual championship for Pierce. The Bluejays qualified for the dual tournament three previous times and finished as runners up in 2020. The tournament has existed since 2013.
