SIDNEY - It won't be a lot, but the Sidney area could see snow early this week.

The National Weather Service office in Cheyenne says less than an inch of snow is possible Monday night into Tuesday.

Rain is in the forecast before 1 a.m. Monday night, followed by a mix of rain and snow between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. before turning to all snow until 7 a.m. A mix of rain and snow will continue throughout Tuesday morning.

High temperatures on Monday are expected to be in the lower 80s. On Tuesday, the high will only reach 38, with a north northeast wind at 20-25 mph. Lows will dip into the upper 20s and lower 30s.

"Even for Nebraska weather, this is quite unusual," News Channel Nebraska Chief Meteorologist Geoff Fox said. "After some 90s and triple digits this weekend, the mercury is about to do a swan dive!"

A winter storm watch is in effect for Cheyenne, Wyo. from midnight Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday. The region could receive anywhere from 4-6 inches of snow, with locations in the mountains receiving 8 inches or more.

The NWS reminds pet owners during this significant weather event to move animals to sheltered areas, haul extra feed to nearby feeding ares, have water available and make sure pets have plenty of food and water.
