Fatality accident reported in Buffalo County

At least one person has died in a Friday morning crash east of Ravenna.

BUFFALO COUNTY, Neb. - At least one person has died in a Friday morning crash east of Ravenna. The Buffalo County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident that was reported at approximately 4:55 a.m. on Highway 2 near the intersection of Pawnee Road.

The crash involved a westbound 2016 Chevrolet pickup driven by Sergio Tinajero, 25, of Grand Island. He was a lone occupant.

The eastbound 2019 Ford SUV was driven by Jessica Ehlers, 35, of Grand Island. There were 4 additional occupants in this vehicle, including Curtis Deines, 52, of Chadron, who died at the scene. All remaining individuals, all adults, were transported from the scene to CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

Members of the Buffalo County Fatality Accident Investigation Team, Kearney Police Department, Ravenna Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Buffalo County Attorney’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Paramedics of the CHI Good Samaritan Health Systems and Nebraska Department of Transportation all assisted at the scene.

A portion of Highway 2 near the crash site was closed for a number of hours during the investigation but has since re-opened.

The Buffalo County Attorney has ordered an autopsy. Investigation is continuing.
