SIDNEY, NE — We're only one day into December, and Sidney is already setting records.

According to the National Weather Service, Sidney's airport reported a high temperature of 74 degrees Wednesday. It's the new warmest December high temperature on record for Sidney.

The previous record was 72 degrees set on Dec. 18, 1980. It was matched on Dec. 28, 1980.

It's a long way from Sidney's conditions just two years ago when the town was dealing with the aftermath of a snowstorm that closed I-80 through a large portion of Nebraska.

The record could be matched again with the National Weather Service forecasting Sidney to reach the lower 70s again Wednesday.

Scottsbluff and Chadron could see new record highs for Dec. 2 as they are forecast to reach the low to mid-70s Thursday.

Forecast highs for southeast Wyoming Thursday are lower — in the upper 50s and lower 60s, but records may still be broken.

A major cool down is expected over the weekend, with highs near 40 by Monday.
