Officials provide update to area affected by 2019 tunnel collapse

GERING, Neb. -- Authorities have provided an update on the 2019 tunnel collapse within the Gering-Fort Laramie Irrigation system.

Representatives of HDR say there are several evaluations to be considered before the propose to fix the irrigation system.

Those consist of public safety, operation and maintenance, constructability, risk and consequences of failure, and the ability to expand.

There are various options to be considered when fixing or replacing the tunnels still to be considered, officials said.
