Sidney Boys Win, Girls Second at Ogallala
The Sidney Boys Track Team took first in 9 of 17 events, including sweeping all three relays, to run away with the team title at the Ed Moore Track Invitational in Ogallala on Saturday.
OGALLALA - The Sidney Boys Track Team took first in 9 of 17 events, including sweeping all three relays, to run away with the team title at the Ed Moore Track Invitational in Ogallala on Saturday. The Red Raiders' 144 meet points overwhelmed the rest of the 8-team field, easily outdistancing second place Chadron by 55 points. In addition to the first-place finishes, Sidney had 5 second-place performances including 1-2 finishes in the 100 Meter and 1600 Meter events.
The Sidney Girls Track Team captured a pair of first-place medals and a trio of seconds on their way to a runner-up finish in Ogallala on Saturday. The Lady Raiders’ 72 meet points edged out Alliance for second but was far behind first place Chase County’s 132 points.
On the day, several Sidney athletes placed while improving their personal bests. In the boys, sophomore Isak Doty won the 200 Meter in :23.14 while senior Jackson Russell finished 6th with his best time of :23.96. Mitch Deer continued his dominance, winning the 400 Meter with a :50.68. Noah Canas improved his best time in the 3200 Meter to 11:22.13 to come in second, and Brayden Shaw went 12'3" in the Pole Vault to finish second.
In the girls, junior Gabby Fortner placed 3rd in 200 Meter running her best time of :26.88. She also improved her Long Jump to 16'10¼” in Long Jump to finish second behind teammate Karsyn Leeling. Senior Lydia Peters placed 3rd in 800 Meter with a new best of 2:37.59 while junior Rheo Dykstra was 4th in the 3200 Meter at 13:29.46. Freshman Deanna Horst had her best leap of 30'1½” in the Triple Jump to garner a 6th place finish.
