Sidney Boys Track has Strong Outing in Lexington

Hot, windy conditions couldn’t keep the Sidney boys track team from another solid outing at the Don Bader Invitational track and field meet in Lexington on Friday.

LEXINGTON – Hot, windy conditions couldn’t keep the Sidney boys track team from another solid outing at the Don Bader Invitational track and field meet in Lexington on Friday. Five of the 13 medals Sidney earned on Friday were gold including a pair from Luke Holly in the sprints. The sophomore swept the 100 meter and 200 meter sprints with classmate Isak Doty taking third in each.

Mitch Deer added another win in the 400 meter to his season total while junior Cam Leeling captured the Long Jump with in a personal best leap of 21’11½”.

Although no team scores were published, by the medal count Sidney scored the most points in boys division of the meet.

Kearney won only three events, but collected 22 medals, with nine personal best performances, to dominate the girls division. Sidney’s lone gold medal came in the Long Jump where sophomore Karsyn Leeling set a new personal best with a leap of 18’3¾“.

Sidney has a busy week on the track coming up. Several athletes will be competing in Scottsbluff at the Best in the West Classic on Tuesday April 26th before Sidney hosts the Western Conference meet on Friday April 29th at Weymouth Field.
