Scottsbluff man behind bars after resisting arrest, running and attempting to cash a stolen check

SCOTTSBLUFF -- Man ran and fought police after getting caught trying to cash a stolen check.

On Monday morning Scottsbluff Police Officers were dispatched to Great Western Bank to investigate a report of a man trying to cash a stolen check.

Officers arrived and the suspect was sitting in a car parked at the drive-up window. One officer contacted the suspect while the other officer went inside. The suspect was identified as Daniel Hubbard Jr, age 21 of Scottsbluff, by his Nebraska identification card that had been given to the bank.

The suspect was asked to get out of the car, a third officer arrived at the scene and stayed outside by the car. The officer inside the bank asked the officers outside to arrest Hubbard.

The officers outside told Hubbard he was under arrest and began to put handcuffs on Hubbard when Hubbard pulled away. The officer was able to hold onto Hubbard’s arm and a struggle began.

Hubbard was eventually able to pull away and began to run on foot, southwest bound towards Broadway. Officers caught up to Hubbard and were able to take Hubbard into custody after another struggle.

Hubbard was taken to the hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Hubbard was then taken to the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center and booked in for Forgery, Possession of Stolen Property, Obstructing, Resisting Arrest, Assault on an Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine),  and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Two officers reported minor injuries.
