LINCOLN - Following the Sidney Red Raider’s impressive performance in winning the boys Nebraska School Activities Association State Track and Field Championship this spring, Head Track Coach Matt McKay has been selected to receive the 2021-2022 Nebraska Coaches Association/Hudl Boys Track Coach of the Year Award.
Coach McKay has coached track at Sidney High School for a total of 13 years, four as head coach. Prior to taking over as head coach, Coach McKay was an assistant coach for nine years. Prior to joining the Sidney Red Raiders, Coach McKay was a track coach for nine years in Gering Nebraska.
Coach McKay said, "This award was very unexpected, and I am incredibly humbled to receive it. It's a direct reflection on the great program and some incredible athletes who took everyone along with them on an impressive journey. What a great season that was! I am excited to see what next spring will bring. I am pleased to have assistant coaches who work hard and are dedicated to help each athlete get better. I have loved track all my life and think this is an incredible honor. I enjoyed track as an athlete in high school, competing in long jump, triple jump, 4x1 and 4x4. Now I get to enjoy it from the coaching perspective and I'm just super appreciative to be able to receive this award."
The Nebraska Coaches Association sponsors several annual awards to recognize those coaches and support personnel that contribute to the success of athletic programs in schools in the state of Nebraska.
