ALLIANCE - No injuries were reported in a large fire at Westco Tire in Alliance Tuesday morning.

According to the Alliance Volunteer Fire Department Chief Troy Shoemaker, emergency officials responded to the blaze at 3rd and Black Hills Avenue at 2 a.m. He told News Channel Nebraska the fire started outside of the tire shop before advancing indoors.

Fire fighters have been at the tire shop for over seven hours and will remain on-scene for the majority of the day Tuesday, according to Shoemaker. He says oil and rubber from tires made it difficult to extinguish the fire, which featured flames as high as 50 to 60 feet with explosions from oil and propane tanks.

The Alliance Police Department asked commuters to stay clear of the area to minimize traffic and allow fire departments to work on controlling the scene. Police say the 3rd Street Underpass was closed to traffic.

The investigation was turned over to the state fire marshal's office as they continue the investigation.

Hemingford Fire Department also responded to the scene.

In northeast Colorado, the Sterling Volunteer Fire Department responded two different hay fires on Monday. A semi-tractor-trailer hauling hay caught fire twice during its journey to Iliff. A hay baler also caught fire west of Sterling.

Dangerous fire weather conditions continue Wednesday. The National Weather Service issued a fire weather watch for the southern Nebraska Panhandle, southwest Nebraska and northeast Colorado. The watch is in effect for gusty winds and low humidity Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening.

The weather service says any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended Wednesday.
