IMPERIAL, NE – The Bridgeport Bomber Juniors exploded for 15 runs in their opening game of the American Legion C7 Area Tournament in Imperial on Friday afternoon. However, they couldn’t slow down a Gordon Regulators’ offense that put up 23 runs on 12 hits to capture the first-round game in five innings.

Trailing 6-0 heading into the top of the third inning, Bridgeport took advantage of four walks, three hit batters, an error, and a wild pitch to put up seven runs without recording a hit to take a 7-6 lead. But their lead was short-lived as Gordon answered in the bottom of the inning by sending 17 batters to the plate and scoring 11 runs on six hits, including four doubles and a triple, to take control of the game 17-7.

The loss pitted the Bombers against top-seeded Imperial on Saturday and the 23-3 Horns proved why they were the number one seed. Three Imperial pitchers combined to throw a two-hit shutout and end Bridgeport’s season with a 19-0 loss.

Bridgeport finishes the season with a 1-20 record. Imperial cruised to the championship of the C7 Area Juniors Tournament with back-to-back wins over the Gordon Regulator Juniors, 7-2 and 5-3. Imperial now moves on to the Nebraska American Legion Class C State Tournament in Creighton, Nebraska where they will face Tri-County at 2:00 p.m. CDT on Saturday, July 16th in the opening round.
