LAKE MCCONAUGHY - A bar and grill at Lake McConaughy hosted a taco bar for fire fighters who helped save a lake community from a wildfire last week.
Hooks Bar and Grill at Vans Lakeview served area fire departments with the free food and a free beer from noon until 3 p.m. Sunday. They also passed around a donation jar. All the proceeds went back to the fire departments
Over 10 fire departments, including Ogallala, Brule, Big Springs, Arthur, Paxton, Keystone - Lemoyne, Oshkosh, Grant, Hi-Line Coop, Keith County Graders, Casey and the Hilti Constructions, Ogallala airport, and Midwest Electric, assisted extinguishing the fast-moving grass fire on the southwest side of Lake McConaughy on Tuesday.
Big Spring Fire and Rescue used an aircraft from the Ogallala Airport that picked up 450 gallons of water to help with the blaze.
Residents at Vans Lakeview, located north of Brule, turned sprinklers on, hosed trees and other objects down with water, and put out embers that traveled near the town.
