SIDNEY - Strong to severe thunderstorms were expected to continue into late Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service office in Cheyenne.

The weather service placed Cheyenne, Kimball, Banner, Morrill, Deuel and Scotts Bluff Counties in Nebraska; and Logan and Sedgwick Counties in northeast Colorado in a severe thunderstorm watch until 1 a.m. Thursday. The watch stretches into southwest Nebraska.

Storm activity generally favored areas along and south of Interstate 80 with large hail and gusty winds the main concern. Severe thunderstorms were already issued for Kimball, Deuel, Morrill, Box Butte and Keith Counties earlier in the evening.

The NWS says another round of showers and thunderstorms are possible on Thursday afternoon, especially over the higher terrain of southeast Wyoming.

Drier weather will move in for Friday and the weekend although a weak afternoon storm cannot be ruled out in the higher terrain.
