CHADRON - The Sidney volleyball team swept their way through the Chadron Triangular on Tuesday. The Lady Raiders handed Chadron only their second loss of the year 25-20, 28-26 and then cruised past Bridgeport 25-14, 25-14 to improve to 8-2 on the season.

Sidney opened the triangular by sprinting to a 16-5 lead in the first set against host Chadron. With Sidney leading 21-11 late in the set, the Cardinals began to chip away at the Lady Raider lead. A trio of 3-point runs for Chadron closed the gap to 23-20 before Sidney secured the 25-20 win on an ace serve by Karsyn Leeling.

In the second set, the Lady Raiders fell behind early by rallied down the stretch. Trailing 18-12, Sidney engineered a 6-0 run coming out of their second and final timeout to tie the set at 18. Junior Demi Ferguson triggered a 6-2 Chadron run with straight kills to give Cardinals four set points to force a third game. Sidney not only survived the set points but closed the match on an 8-2 to win 28-26.

Sidney was led by Kayla Westby’s nine kills, Karsyn Leeling and Gabby Fortner each added seven kills in the match. Chadron was led by juniors Demi Ferguson and Jaleigh McCartney with five kills each.

The second match if the night Sidney’s aggressive serve kept Bridgeport’s offense at bay as the Lady Raiders sailed to a 25-14, 25-14 win. Sidney got a total seven kills from Karsyn Leeling and six kills from Gabby Fortner to pace the Lady Raider attack.

In the nightcap, Chadron used an 11-0 run to close out the first set and a 14-3 to end the second set as the Cardinals won the last match 25-10, 25-15 over Bridgeport. The Cardinals were led by Jaleigh McCartney with five kills and Kyndall Carnahan added four ace serves as Chadron improved to 5-2 on the season.
