MERINO, Colo. – A northeast Colorado school sheltered in place early Thursday after receiving reports of a man driving in the area with a rifle.

Deputies with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were called to Merino in reference to a man reportedly driving up and down Platte Street with a rifle.

Merino School and the Town of Merino both were both advised to shelter in place.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, the reporting party would not cooperate with first-arriving deputies. The sheriff’s office said the caller would provide information to law enforcement, despite having stated that she knew the individual in question. She also told law enforcement on scene that she did not believe the driver did not have a rifle at the time she saw him, but she said the man was known to own rifles.

A check of the area was conducted, with deputies searching for any vehicles similar to the initial description given by the reporting party. No vehicles or individuals matching the description were located.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office said it believes there was no credible threat to the town, the school or the reporting party.
