SIDNEY - A fundraiser event being held Saturday will help raise funds for a Cheyenne County family.
Tyler Bayne, a senior at Leyton High School, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on Oct. 10. He's been receiving bone marrow treatments, chemo, a spinal tap, and had a port put in at Children's Hospital in Denver.
ALL, the most common cancer in children, is a blood cancer that spreads through the bone marrow and occurs when a bone marrow cell error occurs in the DNA.
The "Tyler Tough Benefit Day" will be held at Lazy S Ranch at 2472 Road 131 east of Sidney. This weekend's event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and will feature a watch party for the Nebraska vs. Wisconsin football game on a big screen, a cornhole tournament, silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and a chili cook-off.
"It's $50 to get into that," Event Organizer Tiffany Jones said. "It's $10 for all-you-can-eat chili. When you eat the chili, you get to judge the chili. We'll name a winner and that winner will receive a $200 Wal-Mart gift card."
The entry fee for the cornhole tournament is $100 and the champions receive a brand new cornhole board. Jones says they would love to have a bunch of high school kids playing cornhole.
Other prizes and auction items include a $200 gift card to Wireless World, 26 pounds of beef, a year membership to the Cheyenne County Community Center, and a hunting blind from Nexgen Outfitters
People interested in joining the chili cook-off or cornhole tournament, or would like to purchase squares for the Husker game, are asked to call Tiffany Jones at (308) 249-1510.
All proceeds from the event will assist the Bayne family with travel and medical expenses.
