CHADRON, Neb. -- March 16, 2023 -- The Chadron State College rodeo team joins the other teams in the Central Rocky Mountain Region while launching the spring schedule at Gillette College this weekend.

The CSC entries were competitive last fall, but hope to have better outcomes this spring.  The cowboys are seventh and the cowgirls sixth in the regional standings at the halfway point in the 2022-23 schedule.

Grant Turek of St. Paul, Neb., was among the CSC leaders last fall. He won tie down roping at the home rodeo and begins the spring season in fourth place in the region in that event as well as fifth among team roping headers.

Others CSC cowboys in the top 10 in their events are Jake Chasek of Mitchell, team roping header; Tanner Whitham of Morrill, team roping heeler; Cinch Kiger of Overton, Neb., bareback riding; and Jack Skavdahl of Harrison, saddle bronc riding.

CSC cowgirls who earned points in the fall included Sierra Lee of Rhame, N.D., and Phannette Gray of LaPlant, S.D., barrel racing; Rylee Naprestek of Gothenburg, breakaway roping; and Brooke Worman of Sheridan, Wyo., goat tying.

Lane Day is the CSC rodeo team's new head coach, taking over the Dustin Luper, who provided lots of energy while leading the program the past 15 years.  Day is a native of Bartlett, Neb., and competed in timed events for the CSC team as an undergraduate 2011-16.

The remainder of the spring schedule:
March 24-26—Eastern Wyoming at Torrington, March 31-April 2—Colorado State at Fort Collins, April 14-16—Casper College; and April 27-29—University of Wyoming at Laramie.
