SIDNEY -- A bench warrant was issued Friday for Gurjeet Singh, a truck driver involved a two-vehicle fatal accident that claimed the life of a Sidney woman and injured two teens on May 5.

Singh, 25, of Fresno, Calif., was scheduled to appear in Cheyenne County Court on Thursday for his Preliminary Hearing. After he didn’t appear for the hearing, Cheyenne County Attorney Paul Schaub requested an arrest warrant. Judge Roland granted the request and issued a Bench Warrant. Schaub is filing paperwork to have Singh’s initial bond forfeited.

Singh appeared in Cheyenne County Court via video conferencing on May 22 to face charges related to the May 5 crash. Nebraska State Patrol troopers arrested Singh following a collision between the semi-tractor-trailer he was driving and a Nissan Maxima at Link 17J and Old Post Road in Sidney.

Preliminary investigation showed a Nissan Maxima was eastbound on Old Post Road when it was struck on the passenger side by a semi-tractor-trailer northbound on Link 17J. Troopers discovered the truck had run the red light at the intersection and collided with the Maxima. A passenger in the Nissan, Lori Wiens, 48, of Sidney, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The two other occupants of the Nissan, 16-year-old females, were transported to Sidney Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Singh was arrested for motor vehicle homicide and willful reckless driving and booked into Cheyenne County Jail.

Bond was previously set at $50,000/10 percent cash allowance. A $5,000 bond was issued on May 10 and paid by Singh. Of the $5,000 bond, $500 went to State of Nebraska per State statute. The remaining $4,500 will be forfeited. The new bond is set at $100,000, 10 percent cash bond, which can be collected by the arresting agency, according to the Bench Warrant.
