McCOOK – There was not a coach on the Red Raiders’ sideline Friday night in McCook that was born the last time Sidney defeated the Bison in a football game. The anticipated matchup at Weiland Field had Sidney looking to break a 53-year losing streak that dated back to 1970. The game turned out to be a historic one for the Red Raiders as they came out on top with a resounding 28-0 victory.

Big scoring plays were once again the name of the game for the Red Raider offense, but it was Sidney’s defense that got the ball rolling. The first touchdown came after a Landon Riddle interception on McCook’s third play of the game. On the very next play, Isak Doty connected with Riddle for a 28-yard touchdown pass, giving Sidney an early 7-0 lead with 5:44 left in the first quarter.

Sidney continued the momentum into the second quarter, as Doty scarpered around the left end on the second play from scrimmage of the Red Raiders next possession for an 89-yard rushing touchdown. This extended Sidney's lead to 14-0 with 11:46 remaining in the second quarter, and that score held until halftime.

After the break, Sidney wasted no time in adding to their lead. Just two plays into the third quarter, Luke Holly dashed 65 yards for another touchdown, making it 21-0 with 6:52 left in the third quarter. Sidney's first three scores of the game took just 1 minute and 45 seconds off of the clock.

The Red Raiders however sealed the game in the fourth quarter with a 12-play, 85-yard drive that consumed 7 minutes and 11 seconds of game time. Isak Doty capped off the impressive drive with a 7-yard touchdown run, making it 28-0 with 6:04 remaining in the game.

Overall, Sidney dominated the game with 423 yards of total offense while holding McCook to just 201 yards. Isak Doty again led the Red Raiders with 16 carries for 181 yards and two touchdowns, while also contributing 88 passing yards and another touchdown. Luke Holly had a stellar performance as well, carrying the ball 14 times for 141 yards and a touchdown.

With this convincing win, Sidney improved to a perfect 5-0 record, while McCook's record dropped to 2-3. The Red Raiders now look ahead to their next challenge as they prepare to host the 4-1 Chadron Cardinals next Friday. Chadron's victory over #10 Gothenburg 28-20 at home on Friday adds even more anticipation to the C1-7 district matchup. Kickoff at Weymouth Field is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
