Brandt commits to Hastings College

Signs for Cross Country, Track; plans to study nursing

Sidney High School senior Brooklyn Brandt announces her signing October 5 for Hastings College Cross Country and Track.
Brooklyn is the daughter of Jon and Kristie Brandt. Brooklyn intended to sign last year with Hastings, but with college rules she could only give her verbal commitment. She joined Sidney Cross Country team in 2022. Her current PR time is 24:01.9 which she received in the 2022 season. Brooklyn Lettered in Cross Country in 2022.
Brooklyn was experiencing some health problems that needed to be addressed during the summer.
“I knew I needed stay conditioned. I had a rough first couple meets as my health was still giving me problems, so I didn’t have the best year that I wanted.” she stated.
This year her best time was 25:52.0.
Towards the middle of her season, she started working with Modern Moves-Fitness and Dance Studio. Owner Tre Newmann started giving her some great training and techniques.
“I’m beyond grateful for all of Tre’s help and advice with helping Brooklyn,” Kristie Brandt says.
Brooklyn is currently 17 years old and has had her CNA license for a year and she works at local nursing home. She is also taking a phlebotomy class through the college and is considered full-time college student.
She will get her phlebotomy certificate before Christmas. Brooklyn will also be taking her Med Aide this year which will be dual credit with Sidney High School. Brooklyn will be attending Hastings College to do nursing program where she will then graduate with two nursing degrees.
Dad, Jon Brandt stated he is very pleased with College Coach Ryan Mahogany. He’s excited to see what Brooklyn’s next 4 years of running will look like. Brooklyn said she wants to personally thank her mom and dad for always being there to support her, especially while they both are battling cancer.
"When my dad was in Denver getting his bone marrow transplant, I knew he was watching Black Squirrel Timing to watch how I finished. Also, I'd like to thank my grandma. She’s been at pretty much every meet since I joined cross country and track; my siblings for always cheering me on; and lastly my coaches and teammates as well,"
