SIDNEY -- Matthew L. Cleays, 40, appeared before Judge Randin R. Roland January 31 to face charges related to an incident at the Quality Inn in Sidney.

Police were called to the hotel at about 12:55 p.m. January 25. Police were advised that hotel staff had locked themselves in a room and were on the phone with Emergency Communications as a man was reportedly assaulting another man in the hallway.

The man accused of assaulting motel staff was identified as Matthew L. Cleays. He was transported to the Cheyenne County Jail by Cheyenne County Sheriff's Deputy Zach Goodrich.

Cleays was taken to the booking room where, according to an arrest affidavit by Deputy Goodrich, Cleays was searched and a self-seal clear baggy containing a white crystal substance was found in a sock. Two more bags were found during the search.

On January 31, Cleays was advised of charges including Attempt of a Class 2 Felony, First Degree False Imprisonment, Terroristic Threats, Attempt of a Class 3 or 3A Felony, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Bond is set at $50,000. 

A status hearing is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. February 12 in the Cheyenne County Courtroom.
