Kimball County grass fire quickly extinguished
A call for service shortly before 1:00 pm on Thursday led the Kimball Volunteer Fire Department to the the corner of road 20 and road 29 in southwest Kimball County. There they found a vehicle on fire in a grassy patch on private property.

A call for service shortly before 1:00 pm on Thursday led the Kimball Volunteer Fire Department to the the corner of road 20 and road 29 in southwest Kimball County. There they found a vehicle on fire in a grassy patch on private property. A small grass fire had also ignited due to the dry conditions.
The Kimball Volunteer Fire Department was the only agency to respond to the scene, where they used an engine, a tanker, and two vehicles equipped for grass fires to extinguish the blaze in a matter of minutes.
Firefighters continued work on the perimeter of the grass fire as well as cooling down the engine compartment of the badly burnt vehicle for several minutes after the fire was knocked down. In all, about one and a half football fields worth of short grass burnt.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
