Derrick Wells Takes Over Bridgeport Wrestling Program

The Bridgeport Bulldogs have a new head wrestling coach. Bridgeport Public Schools announced Monday that Derrick Wells has been named head coach of the Bulldog wrestling program for 2024-2025 season.

BRIDGEPORT - The Bridgeport Bulldogs have a new head wrestling coach. Bridgeport Public Schools announced Monday that Derrick Wells has been named head coach of the Bulldog wrestling program for 2024-2025 season.

Wells is a graduate of Doane College where he participated in football and track. He has taught in Alliance since 2015 where he has coached football, wrestling, and track at the middle school.

During his time at Alliance, he has been the head coach for the Alliance Wrestling Club, the federation wrestling program in Alliance, and sat on the Alliance Wrestling Club board.

In 2020, Derrick completed his Master’s-Degree in Coaching through Ohio University. In 2020 he helped start the Alliance Middle School girls’ wrestling program as well as continued to coach the boys' season and the club.

He has been a volunteer coach on the UNK Track and Field team, and also coached wrestling at Loomis and Westside High School.

Derrick will be teaching Elementary PE.
