Nebraska Judicial Branch honors Cheyenne County’s Mindy Wiegand with top honor

LINCOLN - Cheyenne County District Court Clerk Mindy Wiegand was awarded the Nebraska Judicial Branch’s highest honor, the Outstanding Clerk of the District Court Award, this month. The prestigious award is presented by the Chief Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court.
Wiegand was recognized for her exceptional leadership in modernizing court operations, especially in adapting to post-COVID technological advancements.
According to a press release, Wiegand’s forward-thinking approach transformed her court into one of the state’s first to operate almost entirely paperless, setting a new standard for Nebraska courts. Her initiatives, including the use of digital tools, streamlined communication within her team, allowing for faster responses to court needs and requests. Her successful transition plan, which started with beta-testing digital files, ensured a seamless shift to a paperless system.
On receiving the award, Wiegand expressed gratitude and surprise.
“I am so humbled and honored," Wiegand said. "I am fortunate to work with so many amazing Clerks of the District Court across the State, and so many of them are deserving of this award.”
She praised her team members, Shelly Jackson and Joelyann Saucedo, calling them her “dream team,” and credited Judge Derek Weimer for his support of her innovative ideas. Wiegand also acknowledged contributions from Court Reporter Lynn Namuth, Cheyenne County Court staff, Judge Randin Roland, and administrative office liaison Valorie Bendixen.
She thanked her family for their support and expressed her pride in serving the Nebraska judicial system.
“I am grateful for the teamwork, cooperation, and commitment to excellence we all share,” Wiegand said.
