SIDNEY -- Sidney Regional Medical Center is encouraging staff and the public to help those who help others.

Rachael Hudson, Success Navigator at Sidney Regional Medical Center, recently announced an effort to support PlainsWest CASA through the holiday season. She said some of the families served by CASA receive assistance including the SNAP card. However, there are needs that are not addressed by SNAP.

"And the biggest issue is a lot of these people have no money, and all they have is their SNAP card, but they can only buy food with those. So when they did a food drive, I think they did it in September, she (CASA Director Krista Bruns) said when people came in, they started realizing that the food was definitely appreciated, but it was all these other items that they couldn't ... personal hygiene items and household cleaners and laundry soap and toilet paper," Hudson said.

She said CASA has had people come to their office sick, medicine they can't afford.

"They're having tons of people come in and they're sick. And they need just over-the-counter medication, and they can't get it. So, we're going to have a QR Code that people can donate money to and it will go into the CASA account. They'll use it as needed," Hudson said.

The need is household items and personal care products, she said.

The drive in support of CASA is through December 17. Donations can be dropped off at the main entrance of SRMC. Hudson said CASA is trying to support about 30 families.
