KIMBALL, Neb. - Officials urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel as icy road conditions and heavy fog created dangerous driving conditions across the region Saturday evening. The Kimball Police Department issued a notice, emphasizing the risks of significantly reduced visibility and slick roadways.

“If you must travel, please drive slowly, maintain a safe distance between vehicles and turn on your headlights to improve visibility,” the department advised. “Your safety is our top priority. Stay home, stay safe, and let’s work together to keep our community protected.”

The National Weather Service reports areas of freezing fog will persist into the evening, contributing to light icing on elevated surfaces and making roads treacherous. In addition, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for the Nebraska Panhandle, northeast Colorado and far southeast Wyoming. Snowfall of 3 to 6 inches is expected in the Kimball area through Sunday morning.

Meanwhile in southeast Nebraska, a blizzard warning is in effect from 3 a.m. to midnight Sunday. The NWS says cities such as Beatrice could receive a total of 8 to 13 inches of snow with winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
