OGALLALA, Neb. — Gothenburg edged Sidney 42-39 in a thrilling championship match to claim first place at the Ogallala Dual Wrestling Tournament on Saturday. 

Sidney finished behind Chase County after advancing through the tournament with wins over Limon, Mullen and Sutherland. Sidney was led by wrestlers Zech Roggasch, Patrick McCartney, and Cayson Boltjes in the final match of the day. Roggasch won his 100th career match during the tournament. 

Kyser Tiede secured a quick pin at 285 pounds, while Brecken Carlson and Lucas Therrien added crucial falls at 106 and 113 pounds in the first place match. Sidney countered with wins from Roggasch at 175 pounds, McCartney at 190 and Boltjes at 215.

Sidney’s path to the championship began with a 60-18 victory over Limon in the opening round. The Red Raiders followed with a 66-15 victory over Mullen, highlighted by multiple pins from wrestlers Hayden Sittner and Boltjes. In the third round, Sidney defeated Sutherland 46-36, with Roggasch delivering a key 29-second pin.

In the semifinals, Sidney fell to Chase County, 45-36. Chase County’s Dylan Miscles and Spencer Kelley secured falls, while Scott Hoover’s technical fall at 165 pounds helped the Longhorns secure their spot in the top two.

The host team, Ogallala, finished seventh after defeating Mullen 48-27 in the seventh-place match.

Final team standings placed Mitchell in fifth and Limon in sixth, with Mullen rounding out the field in eighth.
