Chappell pharmacist seeking new challenges
Our Town Pharmacy in Chappell for sale
CHAPPELL -- Michelle Schmid is seeking new challenges after 31 years as a pharmacist, five years in Chappell.
"I've been doing this for 31 years. It's time for me to move on to something different ... I guess; not really more challenging, but I just need to see the outside world, I guess, more than being in four walls most of the time.I guess its retirement from pharmacy, not really retirement from just everything," Schmid said.
Her counter has been the place to meet residents of the Chappell area, probably hear the latest gossip, and know people as only a medical professional can. She has enjoyed the experience of working with people and their pharmaceutical needs. She said it can be stressing. She lives by an expectation of quality service.
"It's a little overwhelming at times. If I have about four of five people in here all at once it gets a little overwhelming; answering the phone, filling scrips (prescriptions), waiting on people. But, for the most part, it's wonderful. We have a wonderful small town, and the people are just great," she said.
She said the community is usually patient when the pharmacy is busy. The Our town Pharmacy offers a variety of over-the-counter needs, as well as prescriptions. The biggest challenge, she said, is probably working with insurance companies. She said she also battles the perception that bigger is better.
"I really am trying to offer a little bit of everything to everybody. Customer service is key. I've always believed in that," she said.
She is seeking a pharmacist who is interested in the small lifestyle. Selling the business would allow her more time for her family's other business.
"We own a family farm, and so my husband already has a list of things for me to do as his secretary. We've owned the farm for as long as I've owned the pharmacy and I really haven't been that involved with the operation, and I'd really like to get more involved in all of that," she said.
Schmid can be contacted by calling the Our Town Pharmacy in Chappell.
