PEETZ, Colo. -- The Peetz Town Board met Monday with an agenda including marijuana licensing.

As the meeting progressed, board members learned there are details in the decision yet to be addressed.

John Rotherham, who purchased the site of the anticipated dispensary, pending final approval, visited the board meeting Monday to share his progress on the building. He said the plan is for the business to be called "High Plainz Strains."

"It will be High Plainz Strains. And I like that we spelled Strains with a Z, or Plainz with a Z. It will be High Plainz Strains, of Peetz," he said.

Rotherham said hours of operation will be dictated by the town. However, he doesn't expect to be open later than 9 p.m.

"It's usually dictated by the town. It's whatever you guys feel. I personally don't think we would get much business past 9 o'clock to be honest with you. I don't need to be open until midnight. It's tough enough to get help that late. And even at that, we would see how it goes. I follow customer counts. if there's nothing after 8 o'clock we'd start closing at 8 o'clock. It's just whatever it warrants," he said.

He asked the Board to consider a temporary building while he restores the permanent structure. He said the reason for the urgency is the number of Nebraska customers documented at other dispensaries in the region. He said Peetz will get traffic, and encouraged a decision "sooner than later."

The Board will address the option of a temporary building at the next council meeting. The council will also be conducting at least one work session for the council to review details including signage requirements.

Rotherham encouraged the Board to consider a special meeting once they have a licensing resolution they support.

The council did approve repealing an earlier resolution against marijuana dispensaries.

The next Peetz Town Board meeting is scheduled for October 13.
