Ogallala Sweeps Sidney in Second Meeting of the Season

The Ogallala Lady Indians continued their strong season with a straight-set victory over the Sidney Lady Raiders on Monday night, winning 25-20, 25-17, 25-19. The win improves Ogallala to 24-3, while Sidney falls to 13-15.

OGALLALA – The Ogallala Lady Indians continued their strong season with a straight-set victory over the Sidney Lady Raiders on Monday night, winning 25-20, 25-17, 25-19. The win improves Ogallala to 24-3, while Sidney falls to 13-15. It was the second meeting of the season between the two teams with Ogallala also sweeping the Lady Raiders in Sidney’s third game of the year.

In the opening set, Ogallala built a 15-8 lead behind five kills from 6’1” senior Laney Caskey. Sidney fought back to close within 21-19, but Ogallala finished on a 4-1 run to take the set 25-20. Caskey tallied seven kills in the first set, while Jordynn Schnell and Reagan Nesbitt each had two for Sidney.

The Indians’ 6’0” hitter Alex Ervin took over in the second set, recording three early kills as Ogallala jumped out to a 9-5 lead. Sidney rallied to a brief 13-12 advantage on Kierra Schrader’s second kill of the set, but Ogallala responded with a 10-1 run to seize control. The Indians went on to win 25-17. Schrader led Sidney with three kills in the set, while Ervin posted six for Ogallala.

Sidney opened the third set with a 3-1 lead before Ogallala answered with a 6-3 run and never trailed again, closing out the match 25-19. Nesbitt led Sidney with three kills in the final frame, while Ervin added four for Ogallala.

For the match, Nesbitt finished with six kills and Schrader added four for the Lady Raiders. Ervin led all hitters with 14 kills, and Caskey contributed 11 for the Lady Indians.

Sidney returns home tonight to host Chadron (16-12) at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. The Reserve match begins at 4:00 p.m., followed by Junior Varsity at 5:00 and Varsity at approximately 6:00.
