SIDNEY, Neb. – Gering claimed the team title and Alliance earned a top-five finish at the Cozad Boys Wrestling Invitational on Saturday, while Sidney placed 12th behind several strong individual performances.

Gering won the meet with 195 points, finishing ahead of Plattsmouth (178), Hastings (141), Gothenburg (118) and Alliance (112).

Sidney was led by heavyweight Cayson Boltjes, who won the 285-pound championship after a dominant run. Boltjes advanced with a bye, pinned Hastings’ Ceyton Campbell in 1:46 and defeated Gering’s Gustavo Lucio by fall in just 50 seconds in the semifinals. He secured the title with a 10-1 major decision over Lexington’s Manuel Garcia.

At 175 pounds, Zech Roggasch finished fourth for the Red Raiders. Roggasch opened with a fall over Lexington’s Leonardo Guajardo and earned an 11-4 decision over Aurora’s Peter Russel in the quarterfinals. After falling to Gering’s Rece Knight in the semifinal round, he responded with an 18-3 tech fall over McCook’s Jackson Blomstedt before dropping a 5-3 decision to Gothenburg’s Tristan Koch in the third-place match.

Ethan Hanes placed sixth at 190 pounds. Hanes worked through the consolation bracket with wins by fall over Hastings’ Breck Pfeil and Platteview’s Jayden Bowen before medical forfeits ended his tournament.
