Ohio man charged in Grand Island murder case remains unfit for trial
An Ohio man accused of killing a Missouri resident at a rest stop near Grand Island has again been ruled unfit to stand trial.
By News Channel NebraskaGRAND ISLAND, Neb. — An Ohio man accused of killing a Missouri resident at a rest stop near Grand Island has again been ruled unfit to stand trial.
The decision was handed down Tuesday in Hall County District Court in the case of 22-year-old James Thompson.
Thompson is charged with murder and multiple additional counts in connection with the 2024 stabbing death of 72-year-old Gary Weaver at a rest stop near Grand Island.
District Court Judge Andrew Butler ruled for the third time that Thompson remains unfit to proceed to trial following a recent competency evaluation conducted at the Lincoln Regional Center.
Judge Butler ordered that Thompson continue receiving mental health treatment at the Lincoln Regional Center. Thompson will remain there until further evaluation.
The next competency hearing in the case is scheduled for March 17.
