Registration open to receive free tree to plant for Arbor Day

Registration is open to the community to register your child to receive a tree for free to plant for Arbor Day.

KIMBALL -- Registration is open to the community to register your child to receive a tree for free to plant for Arbor Day. 

The Kimball Public Library is coordinating with Neighborhood Forest to provide trees to those in the community who would like to plant one in their yards. 

Follow the link https://www.neighborhoodforest.org/registration-services/... to sign up. Registration closes March 15 and trees will be sent to the Kimball Library to be picked up before Arbor Day on April 24.

Library Director Amber Sweetland said the company sends trees that are native to the area so that they will grow well, which is usually Pine. 

The library has participated in the initiative for about 5 years, and they usually get 20-30 people who sign up to receive a tree. 

Neighborhood Forest is one of the largest and fastest growing tree planting initiatives involving youth in North America, according to their website. 

“I'm a huge tree hugger; I've literally hugged trees all over the country,” Sweetland said. “[Kimball] is already a tree city, so I think it’sreally important for the kids to understand the importance of cultivating trees in general. It’s how we survive, it’s how we live, and I think it gives them a sense of wonder about our planet. I think that’s a really good thing. We live here; we have to protect it.”
