Panhandle Hoops Season Tips with Western Conference Tournament

The Panhandle basketball season gets under way Thursday afternoon when the Western Conference Invitational Tournament tips off in Scottsbluff, Gering, and Mitchell.

The Panhandle basketball season gets under way Thursday afternoon when the Western Conference Invitational Tournament tips off in Scottsbluff, Gering, and Mitchell. The 8-team girls bracket and 8-team boys bracket are seeded based on the projected potential of each school’s 2021-22 season. The tournament is the annual start to the area Winter sports season.

Western Conference members Alliance, Chadron, Gering, Mitchell, Scottsbluff, and Sidney are joined by teams from Sterling and Arvada Colorado to form the 3-day tournament. Games begin on Thursday at Gering, Mitchell, and Scottsbluff high Schools. First round winners will advance to the semifinal round at Western Nebraska Community College on Friday, while consolation games will be played at Scottsbluff High School. Championship and Third Place games will take place at W.N.C.C. on Saturday. Fifth and Seventh place games will be held on Saturday at Gering High School.

5:30 PM - Girls - Scottsbluff vs. Sterling CO
7:00 PM - Boys - Scottsbluff vs. Arvada CO

At Mitchell High School
5:00 PM - Girls - Chadron vs. Gering
6:30 PM - Boys - Chadron vs. Gering
