Snow tapers off Wednesday evening, dangerously cold wind chills settle in

SIDNEY - A winter storm that dropped eight inches of snow in Kimball by the end of daylight on Wednesday, and six inches in Sidney, Harrisburg and Chappell, extended the winter break another day for several students across the region.
Sidney, Kimball, Potter-Dix, Leyton, Banner County, Creek Valley, Peetz and Morrill all announced Wednesday afternoon that they will be cancelling classes on Thursday. Alliance, Sioux County and Gordon-Rushville are scheduled to have late starts.
Gering, Scottsbluff, Oshkosh, Ogallala and Bridgeport all received five inches of snow by the end of the day Wednesday. Sterling, Peetz and Pine Bluffs each got eight inches.
Winter storm warnings and wind chill advisories continue until Thursday morning. Visibility will be reduced significantly in falling and blowing snow overnight and it will be dangerously cold.
