Eagles Notes: Reynolds is RMAC Field Athlete of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS -- April 20, 2022 -- Daniel Reynolds, a redshirt freshman track and field student-athlete for Chadron State College, was recognized as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday at RMACSports.org.

At the Loper Invitational meet in Kearney, Reynolds climbed up to the No. 6 spot on the 2022 NCAA DII performance list in the men's hammer throw, sending the implement 62.02 meters (203-6) to claim the gold medal. The throw broke his own school record by more than six and a half feet, and bested teammate Shane Collins, the April 6 Athlete of the Week and runner-up in Kearney, by nearly two meters.

The pair of Eagles throwers lead the rest of the conference in the league performance list by more than 10 feet in the hammer.

Eleven wrestlers earn NWCA Scholar Athlete All-America

CHANDLER, Ariz. – April 20, 2022 – Six Chadron State College men's wrestlers, and five from the women's team, were named NWCA Scholar All-America recipients, when the coaches' association released its annual academic awards this week.
 
Student-athletes may make the NWCA Scholar All-American Team by keeping a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with a minimum of 3.25 for those who qualified for the national championships and 3.0 for those who earned All-American status for the 2022 season. The athlete must also have competed in a minimum of four dates of competition.
 
CSC's men receiving the honor are freshman Chance Bockenstedt (Polk, Iowa), senior Stone Durham (Rapid City, S.D.), junior Harrison Gocke (York, Neb.), junior Ethan Leake (Clovis, Calif.), sophomore Dean Neff (Jefferson, Wis.), and junior Gavin Peitzmeier (Omaha).
 
The recipients on the women's team are junior Kinsey Smith (Windsor, Colo.), freshman Ryleigh Dye (Queen Creek, Ariz.), freshman Karstin Hollen (Mesa, Ariz.), junior Jeslyn Jindra (Box Elder, S.D.), and sophomore Kamila Montenegro (Las Vegas).
 
The academic team championships went to Drury University on the men's side, and Colorado Mesa University's women.

Chadron State golf team finishes season in Arizona

CHANDLER, Ariz. – April 19, 2022 – The Chadron State College golf team finished eighth, out of twelve teams, on the third and final day of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Arizona.
 
"We were disappointed walking off the last green," said CSC Head Golf Coach John Ritzen. "We started to put something together today, and then we struggled the last several holes. They had a good week but weren't satisfied. Jordan [Grasis] played some great golf but found some trouble on 16. Brooke [Kramer] and Kinsey [Smith] also put a great three days together, and that helped us out a lot. We don't play many 54-hole tournaments, but four women had some of our best 54-hole performances."
 
The 957-stroke team score, after three rounds, was the lowest recorded in recent history for a three-round tournament.
 
Junior Jordan Grasis finished tied for 18th ,individually, out of 59 golfers, to lead the Eagles. She was tied for fifth, statistically, with an even score on par-fives, through three rounds. Grasis carded an individual score of 77-79-79-235.
 
Colorado Christian recorded 299-293-290 to get to 882 and win the tournament by eight strokes over the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
 
CCU's Faith Kilgore finished at 72-73-68-213 to take the individual crown for the RMAC.
