Walks Doom Sidney Seniors in Loss to Alliance

The Sidney American Legion Seniors issued 14 free passes to Alliance batters and could only muster four hits in a 14-1 loss to the Alliance FNBO Senior Spartans Wednesday night at Legion Field.

SIDNEY – The Sidney American Legion Seniors issued 14 free passes to Alliance batters and could only muster four hits in a 14-1 loss to the Alliance FNBO Senior Spartans Wednesday night at Legion Field. Two Sidney pitchers combined for nine walks and five hit batters while striking out only four Alliance hitters.

The Spartans scored 14 runs on 12 hits while scoring in 5 of 6 innings to improve to 7-10 on the season. Zech Roggasch had two of Sidney’s four hits on the night, going two for two at the plate as the Sidney Seniors fell to 1-9 on the season.

Jakob Callan got the win on the mound, going five innings, allowing only one run on three hits while striking out nine and walking only two. Micah Schneider took the loss for Sidney, allowing seven runs on six hits in four innings of work. Schneider struggled with his control recording just three strike outs while issuing six walks and hitting five batters.

Sidney is back on the diamond Thursday when they travel to Gordon for a Junior/Senior doubleheader. The Junior game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. followed by the Senior game at 7:00 p.m.
