Winter weather on its way to the region on Monday
An intensifying winter storm is on its way for next week

SIDNEY, Neb.- A massive winter storm that could bring tornadoes and flooding to different parts of the country, will likely bring blizzard conditions to the Nebraska panhandle and surrounding areas starting on Monday evening. I winter storm watch has already been issued for Sheridan County, predicting 10 to 19 inches of snow and 55 mph wind gusts between Monday evening and Wednesday evening.
The storm that spent Thursday into Friday dropping 1 to 2 inches of rain on the Pacific Northwest will turn to snow as it crosses over the Rocky Mountains. Snow totals will vary greatly due to winds and the nature of the storm but most of the panhandle should plan on accumulations by Monday night with the heaviest snow falling through the day on Tuesday and continuing through the night into Wednesday.
The storm will cause freezing rain and ice for the Eastern half of Nebraska, meaning traffic will be snarled across the state. The State of Nebraska advises those who can stay home on Monday and Tuesday to do so.
Blizzard conditions also mean consistently high winds and strong wind gusts. These winds will be particularly dangerous as the wind chill is likely to be -10 degrees or lower for most of the storm.
