Lovato selected as next police chief of Sidney
SIDNEY -- At the close of the Sidney City Council meeting Tuesday, City Manager David Scott announced Interim Chief Sam Lovato as the new police chief.
"After the city administration and Civil Service Commission conducted a thorough search process, Samuel Lovato has been selected as Sidney's new Chief of Police," Scott said.
He went on to say Lovato's experience will be an asset as chief.
"I'm confident that Sam's experience including his time here in Sidney will serve him well. As the interim police chief, Sam has shown his dedication to the community at a high level of ability to fill the role. I am proud to announce Mr. Sam Lovato as the next chief of police," Scott said.
Chief Lovato then addressed the city council and the community.
"Mayor, city council members, and residents of Sidney. I stand here today deeply honored, and humbled, to accept this position of chief of police, for this great city. This is a responsibility that I do not take lightly, and I am excited to embark on this new adventure with all of you. Sidney is a community rich in history and with a bright future, and I believe the police department plays a critical roll in assuring that future is safe and prosperous for everyone," Chief Lovato said.
He said he envisions a department that serves, and partners with other agencies as well.
With more than 20 years of diverse experience in law enforcement, fire investigation, EMS, and emergency response, he possesses the leadership skills, investigative expertise and unwavering commitment to community safety that perfectly align with the needs of the department, City Manager Scott said in his press release.
