Vandalism leads to more park security

SIDNEY – Sidney's Legion Park has a new eye in the sky.

Interim City Manager Josh Hanson announced in the Tuesday city council meeting a security camera would be installed to monitor the area including the portable toilets near the northwest corner of Legion Park.

“As some of you are aware, we’ve always had issues with vandalizing the restrooms down there. So our current physical facility is closed for the winter as normal. Just recently we did have some individuals set fire to the Porta-Potties down there,” Hanson said in the meeting.

A security camera was installed Wednesday directed toward the portable toilets and south toward the Living Memorial Gardens. Hanson said the hope is the camera will deter future vandalism.

“If that’s something that continues to happen, even with that security camera, then we may just look at taking those Porta-Potties away,” Hanson said.
