Kearney man sentenced to decades in prison for firing stolen gun, breaking into county employees’ vehicles

KEARNEY, Neb. — A Kearney man who fired a stolen gun within city limits and broke into vehicles belonging to county employees has been sentenced to decades in prison.

A Buffalo County judge sentencing Anthony Adams, 28, to 20 to 30 years in prison for the attempt of a Class 1 felony, which he pleaded no contest to.

A secondary sentence for possession of a stolen firearm saw Adams get another 5 to 15 years to be served after the first count. Additional sentences on the two remaining counts will be served at the same time as possession conviction. Adams got credit for 277 days served.

Court records show officers responded to a shots-fired call where Adams was spotted and ran from police. Officers later used a Taser to take him into custody.

Investigators say Adams was carrying bags filled with cash, gift cards, medications and official documents belonging to county employees.

Video later showed him entering vehicles parked at the Buffalo County Jail, including an attempt to enter a sheriff’s cruiser.
