Norfolk Catholic and Wakefield will meet for Subdistrict Title on Thursday

The Knights dominated the Wolfpack, while the Trojans won a tight game over the Falcons to earn a bid to the Subdistrict Final in Class C2-4

NORFOLK - The Norfolk Catholic Knights cruised past the Tri County Northeast Wolfpack while the Wakefield Trojans staved off the Elkhorn Valley Falcons to secure a bid to the Class C2-4 Subdistrict Final on Thursday.

Tri County Northeast defeated Homer on Monday night to earn a spot in the semifinal game on Tuesday.

As the #1 seed and hosts of the Subdistrict, Norfolk Catholic entered the game with high expectations - and they delivered. The Knights jumped out to a big lead, scoring in transition off of Wolfpack turnovers.

Tri County Northeast fought hard in the first half, but Norfolk Catholic still led big at halftime, up 49-26 at the break.

The Knights started the third quarter on a 28-0 run, holding the Wolfpack to just two points in the quarter and finished off the game with a 91-36 win. Norfolk Catholic's scoring output was the highest of their season and moved them to 20-4 on the year.

Gavin Schutt and Callen Marshall were the stars of the night, scoring 27-points each in the Norfolk Catholic win.

In the second game of the night, it was win or go home for the Wakefield Trojans and Elkhorn Valley Falcons.

The Falcons and Trojans traded buckets early, but Jacob Borg and Cael Johnson helped Wakefield take control in the first half, scoring 14 and 11 points in the first half respectively.

After trailing by 14-points in the first half, Elkhorn Valley kicked things into gear, relying on Korbin Werner's ability to drive to the basket.

The Falcons chipped away, trailing by just 7-points at the end of the third quarter.

The Falcons continued to battle in the fourth quarter and after Davis Rutjens and Logan Black knocked down a pair of three's to give Elkhorn Valley a 48-47 lead with 5:00 left in the game.

Wakefield called a timeout, then regrouped and proceeded to bust out a critical 11-0 run and knock down late free throws to hold on for the 63-57 victory.

The Trojans were propelled by Cael Johnson's 24 points and Jacob Borg's 22 points.

Elkhorn Valley was led by Korbin Werner, finishing his High School career with a 21 points, 15 rebound double-double.

The Knights and the Trojans will meet on Thursday at 6:30 pm in Norfolk for the Class C2-4 Subdistrict title. The game will be broadcast live on 94rock.fm.
