SIDNEY, NE — The Sidney School Board has found its newest member.

The board voted 4-0 Monday night to appoint Kevin Challburg to the board. Board member Mike Palmer was not present and did not vote.

According to the board, Challburg was one of two applicants for the position. They liked both applicants, but thought Challburg's resume gave him a slight edge.

"They're both very good," Board Member Brenda Smith said while discussing the applications. "We decided with specific things Kevin is involved in in the community he may be the better applicant."

Smith and fellow Board Member Brad Kennedy were the selection committee that reviewed the applications and proposed who the new member should to the full board.

Challburg was not at Monday's meeting. He is set to take over in January.

He will replace former Board Member Matt Wallace who resigned in November citing scheduling conflicts between board meetings a his new job.
