SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. -- A 76-year-old Panhandle man was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle according to Scottsbluff Police.

Sgt. Philip Eckerberg said that officers were called to the 1400 block of East Overland to investigate a traffic accident involving a pedestrian just before 7:00 p.m. MT on Tuesday.

Eckerberg said the investigation determined that 76-year-old Ramon Martinez was crossing East Overland from south to north between Family Dollar and Eastwood Estates when he was struck by a westbound SUV driving by 42-year-old Jaime Gamino. Both men are from Scottsbluff.

Martinez was taken by ambulance to Regional West Medical Center. Gamino was cited at the scene for expired license plates.

Evidence collected at the scene will need to be analyzed before a recommendation can be made for or against other charges, Eckerberg said.
