SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. -- A 76-year-old Panhandle man has died after being struck by a vehicle, according to Scottsbluff Police.

Sgt. Philip Eckerberg said that officers were called to the 1400 block of East Overland to investigate a traffic accident involving a pedestrian just before 7:00 p.m. MT on Tuesday.

Eckerberg said the investigation determined that 76-year-old Ramon Martinez was crossing East Overland from south to north between Family Dollar and Eastwood Estates when he was struck by a westbound SUV driving by 42-year-old Jaime Gamino. Both men are from Scottsbluff.

Martinez was taken by ambulance to Regional West Medical Center. SPD announced Wednesday morning that Martinez had succumbed to his injuries.

Officials said the investigation is still ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time. The facts of the case will be forwarded to the Scotts Bluff County Attorney’s Office for review of appropriate action at the conclusion of the investigation.

Scottsbluff Police officers were assisted at the scene by Scottsbluff Fire Department and Valley Ambulance service.
