The No. 6 ranked Adams State men's wrestling team lived up to its advanced billing on Friday, when it won a series of close matches and defeated Chadron State 29-9 in Alamosa.

The Eagles won two matches.  Redshirt freshman Keegan Gehlhausen of Pinedale, Wyo., opened the dual by getting a takedown in the third period that helped him edge Hunter Tobiasson 8-7 at 184 pounds.

Gehlhausen also managed two takedowns in the first period and added a two-point near fall in the second frame for his remaining points.  Gehlhausen is now 9-5 for the season.

Chadron State's other winner was senior heavyweight Mason Watt of Broomfield, Colo. He pinned Abe Garcia with 21 seconds remaining in the first period.  Watt is now 10-2 for the season.

Otherwise, most of the CSC entries kept the scores lows, but were denied the victory in the final period.  Both Quade Smith at 125 and Rowdy Pfeil at 174 lost by a single point.

Despite being warned for stalling, Brendon Garcia held on for a 4-3 win over Smith, and Sam Loera managed a third frame takedown to slip past Pfeil 4-3.

Six Eagles Score in Double Figures During win over Grizzlies

Six Chadron State College players scored in double-figures Saturday night when the Eagles defeated Adams State 92-80 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's basketball game in Chadron.

Both teams shot extra well.  The Eagles were 35 of 56 for 56.5% from the field and Adams State was 32 of 56 for 57.1%

Adams State scored on its first eight possessions while jumping out to a 17-9 lead.  But the Eagles tallied the next nine points to take their first lead.  There would be six more lead changes and seven ties before guard Bryce Latimer hit a running floater in the paint to give CSC a 50-48 halftime edge.

There were six more lead changes and two ties in the first five minutes of the second half before the Chadron State went ahead for keeps on Isaiah Wyatt's 3-pointer.  The final 12-point margin was the game's largest.

CSC Coach Shane Paben said he was pleased that his team shot so well.

"It was nice to see the ball go through the hoop so well," Paben noted.  "Adams State also shot well, so maybe our defense wasn't the best, but it was great to get the victory. I thought we played well."

The win broke the Eagles' four-game losing streak and puts them above the .500 mark again for both the season at 9-8 and the conference at 6-5.

Forward Josh Robinson with 20 points on 10 of 13 shooting led the Eagles. He was followed by Latimer with 16, center Porter Anderson with 14, followed by Wyatt with 12, MJ Foust with 11 and Pat McLachlan with 10.

The Grizzlies were led by 6-7 Isaiah Sampson with 26 points, 19 of them in the first half.  Next were guards Maison Adeleye with 18 and Kolby Walker with 14.  Adams State is now 3-14 overall and 1-10 in the conference, but obviously can score some points.

The Eagles will be at home again this coming weekend to host Colorado-Colorado Springs and Regis.

Adams State Rallies Past CSC Women 74-66

After a nip-and-tuck contest that included 10 ties and 10 lead changes, the Adams State women's basketball team scored 13 of the final 15 points while downing Chadron State 74-66 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game played in Chadron Saturday evening.

Chadron State led 64-61 with 2 minutes and 10 seconds remaining, when the Grizzlies took control.  Their leading scorer, Kiiyani Anitielu, a 5-7 freshman who finished with 18 points, was a ringleader down the stretch. She began the rally by cashing in an old-fashioned 3-point play that tied the score at 64 and made all four of her free throws as time was running out.

The Eagles had a 49-47 lead going into the fourth period. Both teams shot 50% from the field during that frame, but Adams State made eight baskets, one more than the Eagles.  Both sank two 3-pointers, but the Grizzlies made all eight of their free throws and Chadron State was just one of seven at the line in the quarter to spell much of the difference.

Adams State also got 14 points from Angelline Nageak and 10 from Harmainie Dominquez. Chadron State was led by Shay Powers with 19 points while Samiyah Worrell added 14 and Kyra Tanabe 12.

Powers sank nine of 12 shots from the field Saturday, and finished the weekend by making 20 of 24 field goal attempts after hitting 11 of 12 while ringing up 27 points during the Eagles' 66-61 win over Fort Lewis on Friday night.

Saturday's win improved Adams State's record to 12-5 overall and 8-3 in the RMAC.  Following the weekend split, the Eagles are 3-14 and 3-8.  They'll host Colorado-Colorado Springs and Regis this coming weekend.
