SIDNEY -- Residents of the Sidney community have the opportunity to put their signature on the city's future.

Zhahn Bose, with RDG Design, hosted with the City of Sidney a community meeting October 26 in Sidney for residents to view architectural concepts and what is desired for the city of Sidney.

Thursday's meeting is early in the "Sidney Downtown Vacant Building Study." The process started in September with a virtual meeting with city officials to identify vacant or unused buildings in downtown Sidney. The City of Sidney is undertaking a downtown feasibility study for vacant buildings and potential use of current buildings in the downtown corridor.

The project is designed to find new and creative uses for the buildings currently not occupied and being used in the downtown corridor, spur economic development activities in the downtown corridor and promote historic rehabilitation and reuse of buildings that are not currently being utilized, and imagine aesthetic improvements to strengthen the area's image and desirability.

"Our next meeting will probably be in December. In that point, we will probably come back, kind of review some of the data that we're polling here, also go through some of the recommendations that we're thinking. That way, if we're heading in the wrong direction, that's a good point for you to say 'no, don't look that way; look this way. From there, once we course correct, we can go into January, February: however those dates line up to that final product. That might be an open house where people can come in and visit, kind of like this,'" Bose said in the October 26 open house at the Huyett building.
