LODGEPOLE -- A tour of the historic Lincoln Highway went through Cheyenne County Wednesday morning.

The tour left Ogallala early Wednesday, stopping in Lodgepole for a tour of the museum, and an opportunity for local pastries and coffee.

The Lincoln Highway was originally from New York to San Francisco. It is the first transcontinental highway for automobiles in the U.S., dedicated in 1913, according to the Lincoln Highway Association website.

This is the eighth tour for Canton, Ohio resident Jim Cassler.

"This is the Middle Third Tour across the Lincoln Highway. We're going from Joliet, Ill. to Cheyenne, Wyo. today. This will be the end of our tour," said Cassler.

2025 is the first tour for Grady McGuyrt, also of Canton.

"It's been a great time. The people that are in this group are really amazing. They treated me like family, and I've seen a lot of cool places," McGuyrt said.

Paul Gilger, tour guide for the event, said each tour is unique.

"All tours are wonderful. We always see something new, no matter how many times we come across the road. This particular tour we're doing the middle third of the road, which is Chicago to Cheyenne. So, it's been great fun, out in the middle of the country; wonderful people. In fact, the real backbone of the Lincoln Highway Association, the new Association, was people in Iowa that got together back in 1992 and revitalized the Association," Gilger said.
