Cheyenne man sentenced to federal prison in meth, firearm case
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - A 44-year-old Cheyenne man has been sentenced to federal prison following a drug trafficking investigation that uncovered large quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl and multiple firearms, including one with an obliterated serial number.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Wyoming announced that Danel Moriyama was sentenced after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
According to the Cheyenne Police Department, detectives began investigating Moriyama in July 2024 after receiving information he was selling methamphetamine and fentanyl from his residence. Surveillance revealed frequent visitors and vehicle traffic consistent with drug distribution activity.
Investigators coordinated with the Northern Colorado Drug Task Force and determined Moriyama had connections to multiple drug distributors in both Wyoming and Colorado.
In September 2024, detectives conducted a traffic stop after Moriyama returned from a trip to Colorado to obtain drugs. During the stop, officers seized 447 grams of methamphetamine and 194 fentanyl pills from his pickup truck, police said.
A subsequent search of Moriyama’s residence resulted in the seizure of handguns, additional methamphetamine, an AR-style rifle and materials used for drug distribution.
The case was investigated jointly by the Cheyenne Police Department and the Northern Colorado Drug Task Force.
